Stool-Screw Capped Sterile Leakproof Container

Minimum of 5 mL of stool

Send specimen refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
Quantity not sufficient
Formed stools will be rejected unless ilius due to C. difficile is suspected and the Microbioolgy Lab is consulted
Colon washing
Colonoscopy specimens
Specimens with formalin or alcohol added

Stool should be refrigerated if not processed immediately

Negative

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

If PCR is positive, then Enzyme Immunoassay for Glutamate Gehydrogenase (GDH) Antigen and both toxins is performed.
