Important Note

Patient’s height and weight are required on request form for processing.

Blood creatinine must be collected within 72 hours of the 24 hour urine collection period.

Specimen Requirements

Plasma- Mint Green, Dark Green Lithium Heparin or Serum- SST gold top, red top

Allow SST or red top to completely clot

Spin and physically separate plasma/serum from contact with cells as soon as possible

4 mL of plasma/serum/whole blood (minimum 2 mL)

 

Urine-24 Hour Urine Collection Container

Preferred specimen- Entire 24-hour urine collection in a urine container without preservative

Acceptable specimen-Entire 24-hour urine collection in a urine container with 6NHCL or boric acid

Refrigerate specimen during collection and send specimen on ice.

Start and end times of collection are required on request form for processing.

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported

Storage and Stability

Urine
