Factor VIII (Activity), Plasma

This test measures coagulation factor VIII in suspected deficient patients.

Specimen Requirements

Draw 2 full, light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tubes by “clean” venipuncture (no excessive trauma). Immediately after draw, invert tubes several times to mix blood with additive. Immediately spin down for 15 minutes, and then spin again for 15 minutes and place 3 mL of citrate platelet-poor plasma in a plastic vial. (Clotted blood is not acceptable.) Send specimen frozen. Avoid hemolysis.
