Incompletely cooked meat, raw fruits/vegtables can produce a false postive.

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) may cause false negative results.

Specimen Requirements

Gastric contents or aspirate in a sterile screw-capped, plastic container.

5 mL (minimum 1mL) 

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient

Storage and Stability

Room Temperature 15-30C 24 hours
Refrigerated 2-8C 5 days

Samples for pH testing should be analyzed as soon as possible.
