Supravital Stain
The values are increased in sensitive individuals (eg, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency), after certain drugs or foods are ingested, when unstable hemoglobins are present, and sometimes after splenectomy.

Includes percent Heinz body positive red cells.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 1 hour of draw.


Draw blood in a green-top (sodium heparin) tube, and send 5 mL of sodium heparin whole blood.

Note: A normal patient control must accompany patient specimen.
