Important Note

Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors and bismuth preparations are known to suppress H pylori antigens and ingestion of these prior H pylori testing may give a false negative result.

Specimen Requirements

Stool-Screw-Capped Container

Minimum of 5 g of stool.

Send specimen refrigerated.

Forward promptly- Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of collection.

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient
  • Stool in transport media, swabs or preservatives, watery or diarrheal specimens.

Storage and Stability

Specimen should be examined as soon as possible.  Store at 2-8oC if delayed  up to 72 hours.
