Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Cervical Swab

Specimen must be collected in SurePath Test Pack. SurePath (AutoCyte) specimen must be transported in a polypropylene, screw-capped vial. The 6 mL aliquot tube is acceptable. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. Specimen cannot be frozen.

Note: 1. Specimen source is required on request form for processing.

2. Bag SurePath (AutoCyte) specimens individually as they have a tendency to leak during transport.

 

Cervical Biopsy

3-mm cervical biopsy. Place specimen into 1 mL of Digene specimen transport medium supplied. Send specimen frozen.

Note: Specimen source is required on request form for processing.

Reference Values

Negative

If positive, papillomavirus risk groups are identified.
