Useful for differential diagnosis of cardiac and liver disorders.
Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Spin down and send 4 mL (pediatric: 2 mL) of lithium heparin plasma. Avoid hemolysis or lipemia.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube or a serum gel tube. Spin down and send 4 mL (pediatric: 2 mL) of serum. Avoid hemolysis or lipemia.
Note: 1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Do not refrigerate or freeze. LDH is stable 3 days at room temperature (20-25°C)
