Specimen Requirements
Serum-Plain Red Top Tube
Draw 4 ml (minimum 2 mL) blood
Allow sample to clot naturally before centrifugation
Centrifuge and remove serum within 8 hours of collection
Specimen Rejection
- Hemolyzed serum
- Failure to follow laboratory specimen collection, labeling, transport or storage policies
- Serum subject to repeat freeze thaw cycles

Additional Information
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies are a marker for primary biliary cirrhosis. Sensitivity is 80-94% for primary biliary cirrhosis. Anti-mitochondrial antibodies are virtually always absent in patients with extra hepatic jaundice.
