Specimen Requirements
Urine
3 mL from a random urine collection in a KOVA tube or plastic specimen container
Particulate matter must be removed by centrifugation
Stool
Diarrhea stool specimen may be analyzed if properly prepared (ensure specimen is labeld as a stool)
Specimen Rejection
- Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
- Quantity not sufficient
- Specimens containing anti-freeze cannot be performed
- Ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, acetone and similar compounds interfere by inhibiting freezing
