Specimen Requirements

Urine
3 mL from a random urine collection in a KOVA tube or plastic specimen container

Particulate matter must be removed by centrifugation

 

Stool

Diarrhea stool specimen may be analyzed if properly prepared (ensure specimen is labeld as a stool)

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient
  • Specimens containing anti-freeze cannot be performed
  • Ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, acetone and similar compounds interfere by inhibiting freezing

Storage and Stability

Room Temperature 18-24C 3 hours
Refrigerate 2-8C 24 hours
Frozen Not acceptable
