Test Code P2Y12 P2Y12 Platelet Reactivity Unit (PRU)
Performing Laboratory
Memorial Hospital Laboratory- Automated Procedures | 304-388-5953 |
General Hospital Laboratory | 304-388-6244 |
Specimen Requirements
Whole Blood- Greiner Brand Sodium Citrate Tubes
Draw 2 full, tubes by “clean” venipuncture (no excessive trauma).
Immediately after draw, invert tubes several times to mix blood with additive.
Specimen Rejection
- Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
- Quantity not sufficient
- Hemolyzed
- Clotted
- Specimen sent through the pneumatic tube system or vehicle.
Storage and Stability
Room temperature 4 hours
Reference Values
182-335 PRU
Interpretation
Therapeutic monitoring: PRU results < 194 are indicitive of anti-platelet effect.
Cardiac/Anti-thrombotic: PRU results < 208 are associated with decreased complications post PCI (e.g. GRAVITAS, Circulation 124:1132-1137, 2011)
<95 PRU indicated no additional protection from cardiovascular events, but it significantly increased risk of bleeding.
Methodology
Photo-optical
This test measures platelet reactivity in response to activation of the P2Y12 receptor (P2Y12 reaction units/PRU). PRU is decreased by P2Y12 ADP receptor inhibitors (Clopidogrel, Effient, Brilanta, Ticlid).
