Memorial Hospital Laboratory- Automated Procedures | 304-388-5953 |
Specimen Requirements
Whole Blood- Light Blue Top, Sodium Citrate
Draw 2 full, tubes by “clean” venipuncture (no excessive trauma).

- Quantity not sufficient
- Hemolyzed
- Clotted
- Decreased hematocrit or platelet count
Storage and Stability
Room Temperature- 4 hours
Reference Values
Platelet Funtion Epinephrine EPI | 73-185 seconds |
Platelet Function ADP | 55-126 seconds |
Interpretation
Normal result with both tests indicates no platelet dysfunction. Prolonged EPI result with normal ADP result is most often due to drug effect (platelet inhibiting drugs including aspirin). If both results are prolonged, this suggests platelet disorder or von Willenbrands disease. Results should always be evaluated in conjunction with clinical history, clinical presentation and other laboratory findings.
