Additional Information
Screening of pregnant females for carriage of group B strep by culture at 35 to 37 weeks gestation will help determine which females should receive antibiotics during delivery to help prevent infection of the newborn. For maximum recovery of group B streptococci, this test should be collected and ordered separately from other cultures.
