Important Note

RPR testing is reflexed based on Positive Treponema pallidum screening 

Positive screening test with a nonreactive RPR will be sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories for confirmation testing (Syphilis Antibody, Treponema pallidum Particle Agglutination, Serum)

Specimen Requirements

Serum-Plain Red Top Tube

Spin down and send 2 mL of serum refrigerated. 

Specimen Rejection

  • Grossly hemolyzed
  • Lipemic or contaminated samples are not acceptable
  • Serum stored improperly or failure to follow laboratory specimen collection, labeling, transport or storage policies.
  • Serum subject to repeat freeze thaw cycles.
