Specimen Requirements

Whole Blood- Two Full 2.7mL Dark Blue Top Sodium Citrate Tubes

 “Clean” venipuncture (no excessive trauma).

Immediately after draw, invert tubes several times to mix blood with additive.

Transport promptly at ambient temperature only.

DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient
  • Hemolyzed 
  • Clotted
  • Specimen centrifuged

Storage and Stability

Room Temperature 4 hours
Refrigerated or Frozen Unacceptable
