Test Code STBL Occult Blood, Stool

Important Note

Patients should not receive Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for 3 days prior to testing as this may cause false negatives.

A diet low in peroxidase containing vegtables (turnips, apples, oranges) should be observed 72 hours prior to testing.

False postive results may be caused by excessive dietary intake of vegtable peroxidases, intake of red meat, aspirin, and certain medications, and by iron therapy.
