Specimen Requirements

Plastic or glass container or urine cup

Entire specimen. Complete ejaculation by masturbation.

Protect specimen from extreme heat and cold.

Patient should have 2-5 days of sexual abstinence at time of semen collection for accurate results.

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient
  • Specimen not maintained at body temperature prior to delivering to the lab

Storage and Stability

Specimen is stable 1 hour at 37o C

Testing must begin immediately once received
