Specimen Requirements

Surgical specimens in RPMI solution

Sterile container with minumium of 6 mLs of RPMI solution

Deliver to Special Hematology Laboratory as soon a possible

Obtain RPMI solution from Histology Lab. Make sure RPMI solution is at room temperature before adding to surgical specimens

 

Specimen Rejection

  • Improperly labeled, collected, stored, and transported
  • Quantity not sufficient
  • Specimen not received in lab by noon on Friday
  • Specimen collected on Saturday
  • Specimen clotted for flow analysis

 

Storage and Stability

Store all specimens (except surgical specimens) at room temperature 18-24C for 24 hours

Surgical specimens refrigerate at 2-8C for 48 hours

Days Test Set Up and Turnaround

Monday through Thursday,  8:00AM to 4:00PM

Friday 8:00AM to 12:00PM (Must be in Special Hematology Lab by Noon)

Results available within 1-5 business days
